40,000 Kashmiri Pandits pay obeisance at Kheer-Bhawani temple | Dharmarth Trust praises ET for appropriate reporting | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, June 12: Keeping their age old tradition alive, thousands of migrant and non migrant Kashmiri Pandits on Sunday paid obeisance at the Kheer-Bawani Temple in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal District. Hailing Early Times for appropriate reporting on issues ignored by Authorities time and again, office bearers of Dharmarth Trust which offer different kinds of facilities to pilgrims during Kheer-Bawani Mela said that ET Reports waked up authorities from deep slumber to provide facilities to pilgrims. "Arround 40,000 Pilgrims who had started reaching here since Saturday evening from different parts of country paid obeisance here today,this year pilgrims expressed their happiness for services provided to them, Dharmarth Trust is thankful to ET for reporting issues ignored by successive governments, it was because of your reports that administrative officials reached here with necessary staff required during Mela days." R.L Bhan, General Manager, Dharmarth Trust said that it was unfortunate that except Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh none other BJP Minister visited Kheer-Bhawani during these days at least ask for administrative help. The annual festival called as Kheer-Bhawani Mela according to Pandit Historians is celebrated by Pandits to pay obeisance at the temple of goddess Ragnya Devi. Despite their migration from Kashmir in1990 Pandits living in different parts of country could never stop themselves from reaching to Ganderbal in Kashmir and pay obeisance at temple. Apart from services provided to pilgrims by different non Muslims organizations, local Muslims keeping their old traditions alive came to greet the pilgrims and offered milk and sweets to them. The shrine which includes a spring inside according to Pandits changes colour and Pandits believe that it foretells the annual future for the state in advance. According to Hindu tradition, Goddess Ragnya Devi appeared before Ravana after she was pleased with his devotion and Ravana who had an idol of the goddess installed in Sri Lanka, but angered by his licentious way of life late the goddess ordered Hanuman to shift her seat to Kashmir. Earlier today Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti accompanied by her Advisor in office, Professor Amitabh Mattoo visited Kheer-Bhawani to offer personal felicitations to the Kashmiri Pandit devotees who had arrived at the shrine in large numbers to participate in the annual Mela. The Chief Minister interacted with the devotees, who had arrived in hundreds from within and outside the State for the special occasion, and also inquired about the facilities being provided to them, an official spokesperson said this evening. One the sidelines of Mela some Kashmiri Pandits accused government of not providing security to pilgrims while travelling from Jammu to Ganderbal. They said during a stone pelting incident in Anantnag district on Friday two women travelling to Tullamulla in a bus sustained injuries in the incident and government here behave as if nothing happened. Pandits said that they want to return to their homes in Kashmir once again but there must be peaceful environment before any such move is officially proposed by state government and Pandits must not be used as tools for politicians and separatists as well. |
