Rs 616.11 cr approved under DUGJY to electrify un-electrified villages

Srinagar, June 19: An amount of Rs 616.11 crore has been approved by the centre to electrify un-electrified villages and hamlets under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DUGJY) in 21 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, where Srinagar has been left out from this scheme.Officials said that for electrification of un-electrified villages and hamlets, the Minister of Power, Government of India (GoI) had sanctioned an amount of RS 101.28 crore under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidutikaran Yojina (RSSVY) Phase II.
However, they said after subsuming the RGGVY into DUGJY, sanction has been accorded for Rs 616.11 crore for 21 districts of the state.From this amount, they said Rs 293.3 crore will be spent in nine districts of Kashmir while Rs 231.45 crore will be utilized in 10 districts of Jammu region. Meanwhile, Rs 91.36 crore will be utilized in Kargil and Leh districts of Ladakh region.In Kashmir valley, the highest of Rs 62.03 crore will be utilized to electrify un-electrified villages and hamlets in the frontier district of Kupwara followed by Bandipora were Rs 44.92 crore will be spent under the scheme.
They said in Jammu region, the highest amount of funds of Rs 32.57 crore under the scheme will be utilized in Jammu district followed by Rajouri where Rs 30.01 crore will be spent.Meanwhile, an amount of Rs 48.71 crore will be spent to electrify un-electrified villages of Leh, where Congress legislature from Nubra Deldan Namgail taking a jibe at the government had claimed that the last village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) gets uninterrupted electricity while on this side only four hours of power is supplied in 24 hours."Thung, which is the last village on this side of the LoC in Ladakh region get only four hours of electricity in 24 hours that too by diesel generators. And most of the time generators run out of diesel which leaves the village in complete darkness. On the contrary, the last village across LoC has 24 hours supply of electricity," he had said in the Legislative Assembly during the current Budget session.Terming the situation as shameful, he said that if something was not done soon about the issue, it could leader to an embarassment for the State and the country.
