Separatists using KPs to oppose separate colonies

Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 19: Since the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in separate colonies has gained momentum a sinister move has been set afloat to sabotage it by separatists and their supporters.
According to sources a notion is being created that some KP families are opposing the separate colonies for Pandits in Kashmir as it was against the tradition of Kashmiriyat. These people are giving the statements either under coercion or otherwise they are forgetting that where this tradition had gone in 1989-90 when the terrorists indulged in selective killings forcing the mass exodus of minority Pandits is the general opinion among the displaced Pandits leading an exiled life outside Valley for last 27 years now.
No one in Kashmir talked about the Kashmiriyat , composite and pluralistic character of Valley at that time nor thought what will be the fate of the hapless minorities after being forced to leave the Valley, said Ramesh Pandita a displaced Pandit putting up in Delhi and doing a private job to feed his family.
Pandita who belonged to a remote village in South Kashmir said he had never visited beyond Jawahar tunnel till 1990 April when he along with his parents was forced to leave his home after the killing of their neighbor by militants.
Ramesh who had completed his graduation in the same year had his old parents and two sisters who needed his support.
Not only Ramesh but Kartik a young corporate employee presently in Dubai said that creating a notion that Pandits oppose separate colonies is part of a gameplan to sabotage their return. He said it was majority community which rejected both Kashmiryat and composite culture in 1989-90 by forcing the mass exodus of minority Pandits from the Valley and compelled them to lead a life like beggars outside the Valley.
Had not the people outside Kashmir and some organizations came to their rescue this entire community of seven lakh Pandits would have got finished and how can Pandtis expect better deal on their return at their native places in Valley now, he asked?.
Supporting these youth KPC chief, Kundan Kashmiri said that settlement of Pandits at a separate place in Kashyap Bhoomi is the only alternative as the rehabilitation at the original places was not possible in any way.
Kashmiri Pandits said that also censured a few self styled KP leaders who also came with open public statements in this regard as well as those Pandits who called on Hurriyat leaders during their recent visit to Kheerbhawani and asked them to refrain from making any statement on return of Pandits.
