Govt reluctant to setup AYUSH drug testing lab | Building sans equipment | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 19: Previous government as well as incumbent government seems unwilling to set up its own 'Ayush' drug testing lab in the state, almost five years on, the building was completed but astoundingly the equipments for this lab were not provided by government despite repeated proposals forwarded by department ISM. Reliable sources in department concern informed Early Times that former chief minister Omar Abdullah in his rhetoric speech claimed that in six year tenure their government has established number of health institutions across the state but the drug testing lab has exposed all claims. The building has comebup but no infrastructure has been provided. "The lab was sanctioned in 2009 and the executing agency has completed their construction work in 2011. The ISM department has made a proposal for procurement of equipments to this lab and also made a proposal for the manpower but lapse of three years after completion of building infrastructure their government fails to take up the matter of much needed lab", sources alleged, adding that the department has forwarded same proposal to incumbent government but till date government didn't gave any response. Criticizing government sources further said that the laboratory is to carry out statutory testing and analysis of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani (ASU) drugs, and in addition, the laboratory is involved in conducting various research and development work on Ayurveda drugs but all in vain government seems not interested. "In 2013 Union government had sanctioned funds under centre sponsored scheme for development of medicinal plants across the state. The state government has depleted medicinal plants in Gurez, Reasi and Billawar forest division", sources said adding that union government further sanctioned funds under the scheme of horticulture mission which was directly involved in promotion of cultivation of medicinal plants on large scale through farmers across the state but all in vain. Sources further said that despite of huge potential of medicinal plants in Jammu and Kashmir, government has purchased medicines out of state. If state has, its own drug testing and research laboratory (ISM) that is helps to generate employment also helps to generate state economy. |
