Army rescues 12-year-old after fall into river 8/1/2016 10:55:58 PM Early Times Report Rajouri, Aug 1: The Indian Army on Sunday rescued a twelve-year old boy after he fell into a river in the Rajouri district The boy said that he was trying to get to his school on the other side of the river. He tried to cross it by walking across a narrow, slippery plank. The plank was balanced steadily with a pile of small boulders on both ends on the river's rocky shores. He fell into the rough currents as he lost his footing and slipped. The officers of the Indian Army spotted the boy and immediately came to his rescue. He was brought to safety, drenched and shaken. The boy is not the only one in the district to use the plank. For locals travelling to and from work, the plank is the only way to get across the river. The children of Rajouri risk their lives every day to reach school and make their way back home. This is not the first time that the Army came to the rescue of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. In 2014, when the state was affected by devastating floods triggered by heavy rainfall, the Army launched operation Sathaya -(Help) for flood affected people and pressed 73 columns into operation.
