Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 1: The efficiency of administration in DDE, which usually remains in news for various reasons, can be gauged from the fact that despite lapse of one month, Director of DDE has not been able to start the admission process as yet at the undergraduate level due to internal mismanagement.
The sources told Early Times that the process of initiating spade work well in time before the admission of distance students is started in B.A, B. Com. part I, II and III in July to pursue their further studies in the Directorate of Distance Education, Jammu University including those students belonging to rural and far flung areas. They said that it has been the usual practice to stick to time schedule in order to cover the syllabus and to hold Personal Contact Programmes(PCPs) on time enabling students to befitting prepare for their examination without any delay.
The sources told that it was expected that with the change of Director and placing new person by the university authority on the post of Director in Directorate of Distance Education university of Jammu, the work culture in DDE shall pick up further promptness and get strengthened in respect of the academic affairs, but the things are the other way round with functioning of DDE getting gradually crippled due to lack of coordination and lobby system prevailing there, sources alleged.
It has been told that due to flaws in preparation of the prospectus needed before start of admission, the process of admitting the students at the undergraduate level was held up and delayed by one month with students still moving in the darkness with regard to their admission in DDE, the sources told, adding that till today prospectus are not readily available in the Department to begin the process of admitting students for known reasons.
Few students while talking to Early Times said that they have been taking rounds of Directorate since last one month but there is no clear information given to them as to when the admission shall start because they have to travel miles from their villages to reach university to find about the factual position about admission but in vain.
Sources further told that as per the past track record the present Director, who is a professor of Economics has never been able to take classes and teach students regularly nor did he show reasonably required interest to gain academic experience. It appears that the students interested to pursue further studies in DDE are bound to suffer without their fault with basic purpose of opening DDE for distance students getting defeated due to apathy of Directorate of Distance Education, they alleged.
