Illegal entry of outside vehicles in J&K | SVC asks Transport Deptt to work out remedial measures | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 1: The state vigilance commission (SVC) today directed the transport commissioner to take appropriate steps for checking the illegal entry of commercial vehicles of other states into J&K and work out remedial measures. The SVC directive came in a complaint lodged by the director of Kehwah Wheels Pvt Ltd Pantha Chowk, Srinagar, regarding the alleged menace of illegal entry of commercial buses and taxis, which were not registered in J&K, but had been operating here in violation of rules and without payment of taxes. The complainant alleged these vehicles not only 'create traffic problems but also badly affect the business of local transporters particularly during tourism season'. The SVC sought a report from the transport commissioner in the light of these allegations which prima facie revealed that a large number of passenger vehicles from outside the state were plying in J&K illegally. It was alleged that MVD was not enforcing the checks required. The transport commissioner was directed to ensure strict implementation of the laws and rules in this regard in a practical manner and submit compliance report about the proposed measures and means of implementing the suggested measures on ground to the commission. |
