HC upholds writ court judgement on woman's election as panch | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 9: A high court division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today upheld the writ court judgement on the declaration of a woman as panch of Sheikhpura in Kathar panchayat of Bishmah with costs of Rs 1 lakh. The court directive came in a LPA filed against the writ court judgement whereby it had declared one Janko Devi as panch of Sheikpura with costs of Rs 1 lakh. The bench, after hearing the senior AAG, observed that as Janko Devi was prevented from functioning as a panch from April 2011 till the date of judgment, ie March 31, 2016, she was left with the remaining period of only two weeks. The writ court thought it fit to impose heavy costs of Rs 1 lakh which could be treated as compensation for not allowing her to function as panch for over 4 years 11 months and 15 days, the court said. With these observations, the bench dismissed the appeal and upheld the judgment of writ court. |
