Army Chief directs for strict vigil along LoC, assures help of restoring peace in Kashmir | | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, Sept 9: Chief of Army Staff, General Dalbir Singh Suhag today directed the army to maintain strict vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) in the valley in order to counter any mis-adventure that might be carried in the form of pushing in militants from across the border. The Army Chief issued these directions during his visit to some of the forward posts falling near the LoC in the North Kashmir. He asked the army personnel and the officers to ensure strict vigil along the border so that all the attempts to push in militants from across the border are thwarted and peace is maintained in the valley. General Suhag also visited some of the army units in South Kashmir. He was accompanied by the General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC in C) Northern Command, Lt Gen D S Hooda and GOC 15 Corps Lt Gen Satish K Dua. The Army Chief reviewed the security situation and collaborative measures of security forces towards ensuring peace and calm in the region. General Suhag commended all ranks of 15 Corps for their operational preparedness and commitment to the cause of national security. He directed everyone to ensure strict vigil along the LoC. Reinforcing the need to maintain high vigil he urged the troops to sensitize the people especially the youth to eschew violence to usher in peace at the earliest. The Army Chief also appreciated the various humanitarian initiatives by the troops to bring succor to the affected locals due to the ongoing unrest and exhorted them to sustain this positive engagement with the common masses. He interacted with Director General of Jammu & Kashmir Police K Rajendra and both discussed the emerging security situation in the state especially Kashmir valley. General Suhag visited the Badami Bagh Cantonment, Srinagar where he was briefed by Lt Gen Dua on the numerous initiatives undertaken by the Army all across the Valley to bring about peace. He reinforced the need to synergies efforts with all the other stakeholders and assured all support for bringing in normalcy, particularly in South Kashmir. Later in the day the Army Chief accompanied by Lt Gen Hooda and Lt Gen Dua, GOC 15 Corps, met Governor Narendra Nath Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here. During their hour long meeting, the Governor and the Army Chief discussed the external security situation and issues relating to effective internal security management. Vohra and General Suhag also discussed the varied opportunities which need to be provided to the youth for assuring stable and bright future for them.
