BJP neither sincere to Jammu nor to PDP
Baig speaks

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 9: None is happy with the BJP. The people of Jammu are unhappy with it. Their grouse against the BJP is that it betrayed their trust for the sake of power and has even put at stake their very survival and existence. They say they gave 25 seats to the BJP for three reasons. One, vote for the BJP would mean their integration into India. Two, vote for the BJP would mean end of 68-year-old policy of discrimination. Three, vote for the BJP would mean a radical reform in the existing political, administrative and constitutional arrangement that would end once for all the Kashmiri domination over the state's two other regions of Jammu and Ladakh and the rise of a situation under which all the three regions will enjoy equal status and equal powers.
The aggrieved people of Jammu province say that the BJP after getting the mandate squandered it and bartered their life, dignity and honour just for the sake of power. Today, there is hardly any citizen in Jammu who speaks a word in favour of the BJP. Contrarily, all condemn the BJP and its anti-Jammu and pro-Kashmir attitude. So much so, people of Jammu consider the BJP worse than the Congress and even Kashmiri parties like the NC.
The BJP has not only annoyed its own Jammu constituency in its desperate bid to enjoy power at the cost of the national interest but it has also created serious difficulties for its ally, the PDP. The nature of relationship between the PDP and the BJP could be seen from what PDP MP and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig on Thursday said while talking to Times Now about the prevailing situation and the future of the PDP-BJP coalition government. Baig told the Times Now that the people of the state had not endorsed the PDP-BJP alliance, that the ideologies of both the parties didn't match with each other and that the alliance had hurt the party and the party workers in Kashmir. "Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should consider resigning if she feels the 'Agenda of Alliance' between PDP and its ruling partner BJP is a 'paper of fraud and not a paper of good faith", he said and added that "Mehbooba will be able to take control of the situation but cautioned her that in case she feels that the two 'alliance partners are incompatible', she is left with only one option and that is to resign". Baig said many things without actually saying so. What he clearly suggested and the words which he used clearly suggested that the BJP had not been sincere towards the PDP as far as the implementation of the PDP-BJP agenda of alliance was concerned. The PDP had formed government with the BJP only after the latter reassured the former that New Delhi would go beyond Article 370, involve Pakistan and Hurriyat in the dialogue process, demilitarize the state in stages, ask the army to vacate the state land, hand over certain NHPC-controlled power projects to the state government and so in. Besides, the PDP formed government with the BJP only after the former brought the Hurriyat on board. "The PDP formed government with the BJP only after the Hurriyat approved the agenda of alliance and the government is working on the points agreed upon between the coalition and the Hurriyat," Mehbooba Mufti had said in Delhi on December 12, 2015 while speaking at the National channel. Baig's statement, coupled with a suggestion that "if she feels the 'Agenda of Alliance' between PDP and its ruling partner BJP is a 'paper of fraud and not a paper of good faith" explains everything and leave none in doubt that the BJP has betrayed the PDP like it betrayed the people of Jammu province. It will be no wonder if Mehbooba Mufti threw the BJP out of the government, saying the BJP cheated the PDP. For the PDP, it is question of its very political survival in Kashmir, its core constituency.
