Bandipora, Sept 9: Dozens of people who have never worked under MGNREGA scheme have got wages while the job card holders are ignored in Bandipora district of north Kashmir. According to sources, there are people, who happen to be relatives of some village level workers and officials of the Rural Development department, who have benefitted under the MGNREGA scheme. "During past five years, illegal work has taken place under MGNREGA in various villages of Bandipora district like Ashtangoo, Khayar, Mantrigam, Nadihal, Odina, Shadipora, Bear, Chontimula, Checkreshipora, Kunas, Gamroo, Kudara, Gundkhalil, Hajin, Sedrekoot," sources told Early Times. They said that due to favouritism, the work is being allotted to few persons only which is completely illegal. The department concerned has never bothered to visit the site of work for on spot inspection. Sometimes bills are drawn on wall work of flood department, and nobody cares to know about the pace of public work. Also, no one raises query on their work which is not being done as it should have been under the norms, sources alleged. A group of people from Hajin area said that various illegal activities with regard to MGNREGA work are happening in their areas. They said that bills were passed by the RDD after taking hefty sum of money from illegal job card holders. Irony is that the employees of various departments have take measurement of the works during evening hours which is totally unaccepted under the norms, said locals. They alleged irregularities in construction of village roads, bunds, drains. There is also violation of financial and accounts rules under the scheme, the people said. |
