NC forgets Omar's theatrics, blames CM for Scooty scheme | The pot calling the kettle black | | Early Times Report srinagar, Sept 9: Forgetting the childish behaviour of their party president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who would enjoy roller-skating, snow scooting and cycling, the opposition National Conference on Friday blamed CM Mehbooba Mufti for launching Scooty scheme for college girls in Jammu. While launching "Scooty for College Girls Scheme" in Jammu, Mehbooba took a Scooty ride in a bid to popularise its use. But NC couldn't digest the success of the event when Kashmir is witnessing violence. Within moments, NC spokesman Junaid Mattu took to social media to ridicule Mehbooba Mufti and subsequently issued a handout. But his endeavours failed as many people snubbed the opposition for running short of ideas to be in the news. "Are you running so short of ideas that you can't even digest events aimed at womancipation," asked Sania, a college girl from Kashmir, on Twitter. "You should feel ashamed that instead of appreciating Mehbooba Ji for riding pillion to a girl, you are ridiculing at her," remarked another on the micro-blogging website. Another social media message said, "NC stooping the lowest only to be in news." Earlier in the day Mufti distributed Scooties at two colleges for women -- Women's College Parade and Women's College Gandhi Nagar, in Jammu, where 150 scooties each were allotted to the girls. In May this year, the state government announced that it is in the process of taking many women specific initiatives, and among them was the "CM Scooty Scheme". But the NC "expressed shock and disappointment" over the development. "Lashing out at the CM for going for scooty joyrides in Jammu while Kashmir is under virtual siege for the 62nd day today, NC spokesperson said Mehbooba's scooty ride in Jammu was akin to "Nero playing his fiddle while Rome burned." But the NC happens to be the party whose working president Omar Abdullah has been known for childish behaviour as CM. In 2010, while inaugurating a children park in Kashmir, officials were shocked to see Omar wearing roller skates only to play on the turf there at Hazuri Bagh, when children were yet to come in. Subsequently while distributing bicycles among cyclists he was seen personally trying his hand on the two-wheelers actually meant for the sportsmen. "During his visits to Gulmarg in winters, he would straight rush for a ride on snow scooter much like kid," recapped a senior official. |
