About 50 injured in fresh violence, police says 31 stone pelting incidents

Srinagar, Sep 9: About 50 persons were injured, some of them with pellets, as fresh clashes erupted after Friday prayers in the Kashmir valley, where police said 31 incidents of stone pelting were reported today, when curfew was imposed in 12 police stations.
Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators, raising pro freedom and anti government slogans at several places in Bandipora in north Kashmir today in which more than a dozen persons were injured.
About 20 persons were injured when security forces burst teargas shells Shopian, where people defied curfew and took to streets. Some of the injured had received pellet injuries who were referred to Srinagar. Several persons were injured in similar security force action at Ganderbal.
People also hit the streets at Pulwama, Baramulla, Pulwama, Dooru and Hazratbal where security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge. Several people were injured in the security force action.
Security forces also burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge repeatedly at Natipora in the uptown in which several people were injured.
People at several places in the uptown took out "Mashal" processions this evening when there is no relaxation in the strike, called by separatists today.
Meanwhile, according to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Mr Baseer Khan, keeping in view the violence and stone pelting incidents of the previous Fridays, curfew was imposed in 12 Police Stations of Srinagar, towns of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Awantipora and Baramulla today.
Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, 31 incidents of stone pelting were reported from Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla, Sopore, Bandipora and Handwara.
"At these places, miscreants assembled on the roads after Friday prayers and pelted stones on police and security force deployments," it said adding that the situation remained by and large under control across the Valley.
