9/9/2016 10:47:45 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 9: The vigilance organisation today conducted simultaneous checks in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts and lifted samples of some ayurvedic and unani drugs for examination.
The checks were conducted following inputs that the department of Indian System of Medicines (ISM) had procured spurious and sub-standard ayurvedic and unani drugs and medicines from different companies with ulterior motives.
VO (Jammu) SSP Shabir Ahmed Malik said most of the drugs, especially Prostrate Fort, Natural Herbal Supplement and Kaishore Guggulu were said to be fully fungal infested and not fit for human consumption. "The drugs have recently been procured and supplied further to various dispensaries and units across Jammu province for their immediate utilization," he claimed.
He alleged that a senior ISM authority and some members of the approval committee were suspected to be involved in the procurement of spurious and sub-standard ISM drugs and medicines.
The surprise checks were conducted by three different VO teams, each headed by a DSP. The teams lifted samples of medicines and seized the relevant record in the presence of concerned officials and Drug Inspectors of Drugs and Food Control Organization.
The team headed by DSP Zulfqar Shaheen lifted samples and record from Ayurvedic Dispensary of Parli Wand, Kathua, Ayush Unit of Kathua District, Ayurvedic Dispansary Hamirpur, Hiranagar, and the district medical officer, Kathua.
Similarly, the team headed by DSP V K Bhat lifted samples from Ayurvedic Dispensaries of Riyan, Nud and district hospital, Samba.
The team headed by DSP H L Pandita lifted samples and record from Ayurvedic Dispensaries of Bajalta, Surinsar and Aitham. Central Store at Indira Chowk, Jammu, was found locked despite prior intimation. The store had now been sealed through the magistrate 1st class for ascertaining the facts on it re-opening tomorrow by the investigating agency.
