Nation will forever remain indebted To Maj Akash Singh: Team Jammu

Jammu, Sept 9: A society that forgets its martyrs will itself be forgotten one day. We are indebted to those martyrs who laid down their lives for ours and our families' future. These were the words of speakers who paid floral tributes to martyr Major Akash Singh on this martyr day today during a function which was organised by the Team Jammu. Jammu today paid tributes to Major Akash Singh, Shaurya Chakra, who attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists during an encounter on Line of Control in Poonch district on Sep 9, 2009.
Hundreds of people including students from various schools from different parts of city assembled at Rajpura Mangotrian Park today to remember the sacrifice of the martyr for the country. Locals including the family of the martyred officer paid floral tributes on his 8th death anniversary. Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha), who was chief guest on the occasion, while addressing the gathering appealed to people that always remember the sacrifices of martyred soldiers. He said that such events will not only solve the purpose of remembering contributions of the Army but people need to bond themselves with their sacrifices. He said that the whole nation is indebted to Major Akash Singh for his supreme sacrifice. He said those who attain supreme sacrifices for nation are lucky ones and we must stand by the family members of martyrs so that they don't feel alienated.
Thakur Shanker Singh, father of Major Akash in his brief address recalled the passion of his martyr son for joining Indian Army. With tears rolling down, he said "I am proud of my son for his supreme sacrifice. Everyone must follow his footprints while serving the nation."
Chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal who presided over the function said that people should not forget the days when our soldiers give their lives while guarding borders for nation's safety. Jamwal said that the youth must unite and stand in support of our forces so that they should not feel demoralised in the hands of anti-national elements.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Arun Manhas and SP City North, Vinod Kumar (IPS) who were the special guests, in their brief addresses stated, "Today Major Akash Singh, recipient of Shaurya Chakra, is not with us, but he will always remain alive in the hearts and a role model for younger generation."
They said and exhorted the youth to follow the tradition which people of this region has been following since centuries.
