Early Times Report

Kathua, Sept 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and both Union and state agricultural ministers talk about development of agricultural sector in entire country but shortage of faculty in agricultural department for the last decade directly affects agricultural sector.
Number of vacant posts in 3 sub divisions of Agricultural department in district Kathua would create havoc among all.
Agricultural department must have Sub Matter Specialists SMS, resource persons who aware AEOs, JAEOs and VAEWs officials about the development and new technique in agricultural sector. The trained persons are being deployed in field to aware farmers for quality crops and new techniques of farming. It would surprise to all that 6 out of 8 posts are lying vacant in District Kathua that proportionally affect sowing, farming and harvesting techniques Farmers without having knowledge about farming, deceases and new technique in agricultural sector feel helpless and in dilemma.
Pertinently, District Agricultural Extension Officer, Assistance Soil Conversation Officer ( Agricultural Engineer) and Mushroom Development Officer posts are also in hung position without availability of these officers for several months. VAEW are deployed in field to aware the farmers but ironically they are themselves unaware about the way of cropping harvesting and new techniques as they were deployed without any training or single awareness programme to aware these new entrants.
Kissan Forum stringently condemned shortage of faculty and unawareness among the part of agricultural officials. The forum appealed agricultural minister to fill these posts and conduct awareness programme for both farmers and agricultural officials.
Chief Agricultural Officer Kathua who revoked his transfer order proved to be a puppet in the hand of influential people as grants are being allocated for awareness programmes but nothing has been done on ground level. He must proceed with the demand of farmers to concerned authority, provide sufficient standardized seeds but he acts like spectator and leaves farmers on their own.
