New KVK for district Samba under aegis of SKUAST-J

Samba, Sept 9: Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India has approved the establishment of a new KVK for district Samba under the aegis of SKUAST-Jammu.
The University will soon sign a MoU with the ICAR and initiate functioning on the establishment of the new KVK. The KVK will immensely help in the transfer of agricultural technologies to the farmers for the rapid and sustainable advancement of agriculture and its allied sectors in the district.
This would go a long way in advancing the growth of agriculture and livestock and bring about a visible change in the economic upliftment of the farming community in the state.
The new KVK in addition to the regular activities, will lay emphasis on promotion of new technologies related to the rainfed agriculture, rainfed horticulture, and pulses and oilseeds, in addition, "On-Farm Testing" of identified technologies, organizing short and long term training courses in agriculture and allied fields, vocational trainings for the rural youths and school drop outs with emphasis on 'Learning by doing' for their skill development and generating self-employment, laying Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on various crops to assess the technologies and to impart trainings to the field level extension functionaries. With the establishment of the new KVK at Samba, the farmers of the district shall be able to harvest the benefit of various schemes sanctioned/funded by ICAR / Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The university authorities decided to establish the KVK for district Samba on the available farm under the possession of SKUAST-J till the identified land measuring approximately 20 hectares, situated in villages Mananu, Behri, Samalah & Arazi of Tehsil & district Samba is formally transferred by the State Govt. to SKUAST-Jammu. Efforts are also afoot by the farm University for the early establishment of three new KVKs one each in the districts of Udhampur, Ramban and Kishtwar.
