Dalai Lama's visit to Arunachal may strengthen India's claim on the state | | | China has,for the time being provoked a section of Indian political leaders, especially the Congress. It has done so by suggesting India that New Delhi should not allow the Dalai Lama to visit Arunachal Pradesh. Why only Arunachal Pradesh ? China has,for the last 30 years, announcing at the top of its voice that Arunachal Pradesh is part of China without any justification. Since China considers Dalai Lama as its enemy as he had fled from Tibet in 1959 when China occupied the land of Lamas and since them China has not tried to promote cordial ties with India. The way the Dalai Lama and other Tibetians fled from Tibet in 1959 has been the root cause for the 1962 India-China conflict that made its to suffer heavy losses.Since then the Dalai Lama is an eyesore to China and whenever some important Chinese leaders visit Delhi these Tibetian refugees hold demonstrations demanding freedom for Tibet and the Chinese leaders believe that the Indian leaders have been encouraging these protest demonstrations. In order to avenge asylum granted to the Dalai Lama, prominent spiritual leader from Tibet by India Beijing is trying to oppose anything that could prove advantageous to India. However, the Congress has been provoked by the announcement of China and India should take steps to prevent the Dalai Lama from visiting Arunachal Pradesh. The Congress on Saturday rubbished and rejected China's warning to India not to allow the Dalai Lama to visit Arunachal Pradesh in January next year. It said the Tibetan spiritual leader is free to travel independently to any part of India and that Beijing has no right to question it. "China can have its own opinion. We all believe that the Dalai Lama is a guest in India and that he can travel freely, independently to any portion that is within the territorial jurisdiction of India. Arunachal is an integral part of India," Congress leader Randeep Surjewala has said. Surjewala urged the government to send a strongly worded message to China. "No other country, no other individual, definitely not China, has the right to question the complete integrity and union of the state of Arunachal Pradesh with the union of India. We have indelible rights over the land as also over the territory of Arunachal Pradesh as a part and parcel of India. The government should send a strong message to China," he said. The Dalai Lama is scheduled to visit Arunachal Pradesh early next year at the invitation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.China considers the Dalai Lama a "splittist" who seeks to separate nearly a quarter of the land mass of the People's Republic of China. However, Congress spokesman seems to have reacted sharply. And may be he plans to increase the distance between New Delhi and Beijing which he should not have done in the light of the uneasy situation that prevails on the India-China border. It is hoped that Modi in particular and the central Government in general would not comment on China's views and allow the Dalai Lama the permission to visit Arunachal Pradesh. If New Delhi does so it would strengthen India's claim on Arunachal Pradesh and that too without annoying China. |
