Police promotes 'VVIP culture' in Kathua | MLA, others violate traffic rules | | Arun Trisal Early Times Report kathua, Oct 31: The Traffic department's one-way traffic rule is triggering chaos in Kathua town, with people accusing the authorities of harassing general public in order to ensure smooth movement of the 'VVIPs'. Even as four-wheelers are not allowed to enter Mukherjee Chowk in the town, MLA Kathua, former MLC Subash Gupta and many top officials of the district administration openly violated the rule on Monday as cops allowed these 'VVIPs' to enter the 'no entry' area. Pankaj Raja, Zila Maha Mantri of the BJP Yuva Morcha, said the police's policy of encouraging the so-called VIP culture was not only creating inferior complex among the general public but also raises fingers the the working of police department itself. Raja appreciated the barricade but demanded that it should be for all, not for general public only. Vijay Sharma, a passerby, said the police facilitates traffic violations in order to remain in the good books of the 'VIPs' but harasses general public. "MLA Kathua and other politicians and officials of the district administration must follow traffic rules first then ask others to do so," Sharma said. Another local, Ashok Kumar, appreciated one-way traffic in Kathua town and demanded that it should be started from Shaheedi Chowk to Zarai Morh as well to control the traffic jams. He said that all citizens of the town must follow the rules, "but when public representatives violate traffic rules how can we ask general public to follow." |
