With 2 weeks left for exams, students unsure about syllabus | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report srinagar, Oct 31: With hardly two weeks left for the board examinations to start in Kashmir, the students appearing in these examinations are worried since they are unsure about the percentage of syllabus that they have to complete before appearing in the examinations. Higher ups of Jammu & Kashmir State Board of Education (J&K BOSE) had given enough hints that relaxation would be given in the syllabus since the students were not able to go to educational institutions over the past four months. However, the follow-up action has not been taken by the concerned people so far. The unrest that broke out in Kashmir following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani has led to complete closure of educational institutions in the valley. The students had completed just a portion of their syllabus and since then they have not been able to complete the remaining portion of their syllabus. With no formal announcement being made with regard to relaxation in syllabus uncertainty looms large over the future of students of Kashmir. The students are at loss as how much syllabus they have to cover before they appear in the examination. The indecision from the authorities may lead to a situation where-in scores of students may miss the examinations. Sources told Early Times that there is lack of consensus among the J&K BOSE officials over the relaxation in syllabus and no final decision has been taken in this regard so far. While some of the officials believe that relaxation should be given to students there are others who oppose the same. While the 10th class examination is scheduled to start from November 15, the 10+2 examination is going to get underway from November 14. Thousands of students are going to appear in these examinations and most of these students are under tremendous stress since they have not completed their syllabus so far. This is despite the fact that examinations are just round the corner. "We had hardly completed 25 percent of our syllabus at our school before the schools got closed. For three months there was stagnation and we could not carry on with our studies. We have restarted preparations for the examination at our home for the past 20 days, but still then not more than 40 percent of syllabus has been completed. We are at total loss as how to go about with our examination since the syllabus has not been completed so far," said a group of students. The students complained that J&K BOSE wants to ruin their career and that holding of examination has become a matter of prestige for board officials. These students said that despite knowing that major portion of syllabus has not been completed the board officials want to hold examinations in order to show normalcy has returned to Kashmir. "The students are being made scapegoats by the people at helm and it is due to this reason only that government wants to hold examinations in the present scenario. God forbid if anything happens to any student who would be responsible for the same. We fear that many of our companions would miss out on examinations for the reasons beyond their control," said students. |
