27 schools burnt in two months, Jammu's tutorials agog | Geelani forces Kashmiri children to quit Kashmir | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 31: Thousands of children drawn from various parts of Kashmir valley are pouring in everyday in Jammu and seeking admissions in tutorials across the city, with unrelenting separatist hawk Ali Shah Geelani bent upon ruining the careers of an entire generation of Kashmir. With more than 27 schools burnt in last two months and educational institutions across the valley shut since July, worried parents are pooling in resources to send their childrento Jammu and get them admitted in various tutorials so that they can pursue their studies. Kashmiri boys and girls of various age groups in tens can be seen outside the tutorials of the city, looking forward to complete their syllabi which have been left incomplete due to prolonged unrest in the Valley. "My parents have sent me and my brother to our relatives' place at Sidhra and we have taken admission in a tutorial ion Kachi Chhowni so that we can complete our syllabus" told Nousheen, a student of a famous school in Srinagar. The exodus of students from the Valley triggered by the insanity of the separatists is however proving to be blessing in disguise for the tutorials in Jammu who are suddenly finding themselves in thick business. "We have started special package courses for the students who are seeking admission in the middle of the session due to ongoing situation in Kashmir as we are close to finishing the syllabi here" said the coordinator of a noted tutorial in Jammu. While the children who have managed to migrate to Jammu and seek admissions here belong to well to do families, large number of families in Kashmir and their school and college going students are a worried lot as they do not have resources to send their children to Jammu or other parts of the country. "Government has made it clear that it would go ahead with the examination as per the schedule with some truncations in the syllabi, under such circumstances, it is imperative that the schools are opened and children resume their normal studies" said Aejaz Ahmad, a worried parent of two. It is pertinent to mention here that separatists and the militants had reacted nervously to the efforts of the Government to reopen the schools. Threats were issued to the Minister for Education when he directed the teachers to return to the schools. Meanwhile, students have started a campaign against the move of the separatists to deprive the children of normal education and several students had recently called on the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to do the needful to ensure that normal schooling was resumed at the earliest. |
