Seeking re-scheduling of exams, has Omar inadvertently sided with separatists? | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 31: Suggesting re-scheduling of exams in Kashmir Valley, which normally begin in the month of November, many believe Omar Abdullah has inadvertently echoed the voice of the separatists, who want to disturb the academic calendar in the valley and induce youth into militancy and anti-national activities. Omar's suggestion has come at a time when the government has made it clear that there will be no change in the examination schedule due to ongoing unrest spreading close to four months. Omar Abdullah by this suggestion has tried to put at the risk the career of thousands of students, especially of the class 12th as delayed exams will bar them from seeking admission in professional colleges outside the state. "The curriculum covered in tenth and twelfth standards forms the basis of the curriculum for professional entrance examinations and hence the Government's offer of curtailing the curriculum covered in these examinations makes no sense and will affect their performance in the entrance examinations in turn", Omar said. "If Omar is so serious in the education of the students , he should have openly asked the separatists and other people indulging in violence to spare schools and students but he sees a political fortune in unrest" said a senior official. Many students in the valley like in other parts of the country take recourse to private tuition and have probably completed their studies but they need to qualify the board exams to sit in the professional entrance. "Omar Abdullah himself left Srinagar when militancy was its peak and studied abroad. He doesn't understand the things properly. Another wasted year will only compound the problem and does he think that parents will spare any body if their kids are left to stay at home for one full year? It speaks about another instance of Omar not being aware of the ground reality," said a senior minister.
