'Geelani responsible for pushing Kashmir to stone age' | | | Raj Sandeep Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 31: Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani "is playing with the future of Kashmir's young generation and is mainly responsible for the destruction caused in the ongoing agitation in Kashmir," according to many people. Radha Krishan, a Kashmiri migrant putting up in Jammu, said that separatists have destroyed whole Kashmir due to their anti-national activities. "Majority of Kashmiri children are heading towards dark future in the absence of education as schools, colleges and universities in the Valley remain closed for the last four months," Krishan said. Zahoor Ahmed, an educationist, said that if separatist leader like Geelani was really serious and concerned about the welfare of Kashmiris, he would not have misguided and instigated the youth to resort to anti-state activities which have forced the law and order machinery to take action against the miscreants. Ahmed said the "thirst of Geelani for igniting unrest in Kashmir was so unquenchable that he virtually forgot his basic duty and responsibility as elderly person towards the people of Kashmir." "For the sake of amassing wealth for his family members, he's keeping entire Kashmir hostage," said Ahmed. Another citizen, Bilal Ahmed, rued the "irresponsible acts of separatist leaders," saying that many people are fleeing from the Valley fearing threat to their lives. "Majority of barber shops run by non-locals have closed down. Very few shops run by locals are now flooded with people standing in queue waiting for their turn as if they have to buy kerosene oil or ration from government depots. One can easily predict the deplorable condition of general public there having tough time to run their daily life," he added. Lambasting separatists leaders and their sponsors, Rafiq Ahmed said that a large business community has lost everything during the shutdown. "They fail to liquidate their loans taken from banks and they apprehend to be declared as defaulters by banks with no future of their business establishments." He alleged that the business of separatists is at its zenith as they get sufficient funds from their bosses across the border and they want the unrest and killing of youth to continue at the cost of general public. Another small time businessman, pleading anonymity, said their position has become awkward in the society. The parents, he said, feel insecure and prefer marriages of their girls with government employees only as business stands totally crippled in the Valley. A former lawmaker pleading not to be named said that one wonders as to why the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state is not taking any action against the separatist leaders who have flared up the unrest in the Valley. "Why can't the government cut to size these so-called leaders invoking relevant laws against them? It's a million dollars question," he said. |
