Track-II team's visit 'breaks ice' in Valley | | | Muhammad Mukaram Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 31: The recent visit of former Union Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha-led five member team has helped in breaking the ice in the Valley which is in turmoil for the last four months. After meeting Syed Ali Geelani and other separatist leaders, Sinha said the purpose of the visit was to "fullfill the gap between the people of Kashmir and Centre and to feel the pain and sufferings of Kashmiris." Earlier, Geelani had closed the doors for MPs including Sitaram Yechury, Assadudin Owasi and others. Various trade bodies also refused to meet the delegation that time. This time, the Sinha-led delegation had separate meetings with Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) and Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) where issues related to the prevailing situation were discussed. Soon after the meeting, Sinha spoke to media and said that the visit should be seen as a "humanitarian effort to connect" with the people of Kashmir to rest of the country. Sinha hoped that the meeting will prove "productive", saying that the response from the traders has been "favorable". Besides Sinha, the team included Wajahat Habibullah, the former chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities, former air vice-marshal Kapil Kak, journalist Bharat Bhushan, and Sushobha Barve, the executive director of the Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation. |
