Jammu, Dec 7: Congress activists and the people of ward no.14 under the leadership of Ward President Captain M.R Sharma, today held a strong protest demonstration against the present dispensation of PDP-BJP owing to their arbitrary act of mysteriously raising the prices of atta by 62% and rice by 50 % without coming out with any Government notification or making any public announcement to this effect. People raised slogans against the Government for its coercive action of raising the prices of ration items.
Addressing the media, DCC General Secretary Vinay Sharma expressed strong resentment over the hike in the rates of rice and flour. He said that this anti people act of Government will badly hit the poor people across the state who are already grappling with the ill-effects of demonetization, the rise in the prices of essential commodities has come with yet another blow in the wake of cash starvation.
He also highlighted his apprehensions on the reports published by some newspapers that the rate of levy sugar is also going to be hiked from existing Rs 13.50 Kg to Rs 25 Kg shortly.
Sharma expressed shock over the revelation of Commissioner Secretary CAPD as reported in the some newspapers, that the decision on the upwards revision of rates was taken in the state cabinet meeting held in July 2016 and it also allowed continuance of old rates of ration for three more months.
As such after the lapse of three months rates have been revised. He asked the Government that why a decision that touches each and every individual in the state has not been brought to the public domain. He along with the people present demanded that the rates should be rolled back immediately and threatened to launch extensive agitation against the Government if there is any delay in doing so.
Padmni Langeh , Vice President DCC during her address to the gathering raised an issue of old aged, handicapped and widows pension which is still not given to the deserving people.
She said that it was announced by the Government that the revised pension of Rs 1000 will be given to the existing pension holders, but as a matter of fact Social Welfare Department is just asking for the submission of Aadhar Cards the exercise which is already going for almost an year.
