Rajouri's daughter 'Wahida Prizm' make her soil proud again | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Dec 7: Waheeda Prizm, daughter of Rajouri district added another feather in her cap by achieving another success with her new assignment as being appointed as Additional Ship Safety Officer (ASSO) at Naval Ship Angre under Head Qarter Western Naval Command. Earlier she has hit the media limelight when she became the only armed forces woman officer to lead a Parade, when she was promoted to the rank of Surgeon Captain and now she has been appointed as Additional Ship Safety Officer (ASSO) at Naval Ship Angre under Head Qarter Western Naval Command. Surgeon Lt Cdr Wahida had also created the history when she became first woman to lead a parade which was considered to be very big honor in the armed forces. Born in Thanamandi village of Rajouri district in the year 1972 in the family Gulzar Ahmed and Hajra Kaser both teacher by profession, Wahid Prizm is one of five siblings. Her elder sister Jubin is Deputy Superintendent in J&K Police. During her schooling at Thanamandi where most of the Muslim girls have fears over their future due to restricted education, but Waheed Prism has a zeal to do something different and has different ambition to become someone special. She was also interested in riding a motorcycle and climbing mountains. And this as expected was not digested by the community leaders and her parents faced many problems including the family had to leave the town. Wahida's father a headmaster in the school was gunned down in the school by the unidentified militants in 2001 inside the school complex near Thanamandi town when the insurgency has infested the border district. Determined to achieve her dreams, Waheeda Prizm, completed her Class XII from Government Girls School Rajouri while living with her grandmother and later got selected for MBBS at Govt medical College (GMC) Jammu and thus left for Jammu. During her studies at GMC Jammu, Waheeda got influenced by career in Armed Forces and soon after passing her MBBS she preferred to join Navy. Subsequent to an orientation training course at the Officer's Training School at Lucknow, she was commissioned in the Navy in 1997. Earlier the women were not allowed to serve at ships but when she got the opportunity she voluntarily offered her name and was selected to serve at the Naval Ship During service she married to M.Khan ,a pathologist by profession and former Short Service Commissioned (SSC) Officer. |
