Politicians under scanner for helping fraud 'Vista Group' | | | Saqib Ahmad Early Times Report srinagar, Dec 7: As the investigations have been taken up into the dubious recruitment agency 'Vista Group', its proprietor Burhan Baig is personally known by various top politicians of the state. After it was reported that operations of the so-called group seems dubious as it had duped job aspirants after publishing advertisements in newspapers, the government sealed its office at Wazir Bagh here on November 2. Its bank accounts were also seized. The government had asked people to come up with complaints if any against the group, but so far no one, according to officials, has come forward who had been duped by the group or having any information about its operations. But it has been revealed that Baig was known by four top politicians of Baramulla and Srinagar. Sources said the politicians had said they only know him but didn't help him to start the recruitment agency which now seems fraud. In his late twenties, Baig is from Srinagar and claims to have studied in the University of Nottingham, lives in Gurgaon and runs more than a dozen companies with a presence in New Zealand, Malaysia, Dubai and New Delhi. Baig's father ran a jewellery business at Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar. A PDP leader has confirmed that he talked to some administrative officials on Baig's behalf, but claims he hardly knows him. Similarly, Baig has also mentioned name of a PDP minister. The minister according to sources is a close friend of Baig's uncle. Sub-district magistrate of Srinagar Syed Haneef Balkhi, who was also appointed as investigating officer into the case had said that Vista Group had produced a fake registration certificate of their firm. He had said Baig was called for questioning, wherein it was proved that the registration certificate which he produced before the authorities and claimed it to have been issued by the Labour Department was fake. Now the case has been referred to the Crime Branch, which has asked people to come up with complaints if any against the company. On October 26, the Vista Group, claiming to serve 360 businesses worldwide, put out full-page advertisements in local newspapers of Kashmir, announcing a mega recruitment drive and inviting applications for 631 posts in companies based in Srinagar, Chandigarh, Jammu and Gurgaon. However, the mega show came to an abrupt end with timely intervention by the police and the district administration by sealing its office and froze its bank accounts. |
