Ahead of Gulmarg festival, separatists invite tourists! | Strange colours of united Hurriyat | | Early Times Report srinagar, Dec 7: Ahead of the upcoming Gulmarg festival, the united Hurriyat invited tourists to Kashmir only because the separatists realized that their boat was sinking and that it was better to please the government. Sources said some senior officials of the Tourism Department, through a lobby of businessmen, recently approached senior separatists including Syed Ali Geelani seeking their invitation to tourists to Kashmir. Sources said Geelani and other separatist leaders spearheading the ongoing protests were told that the upcoming Gulmarg festival could only be success if they invite tourists to Kashmir. Sources said Geelani was told that his protest calendar was losing efficacy in public circles and that it was better for him to soften his stand or that the "government was about to reopen the cases of hawala transactions held by his family including sons and son-in-laws." Sources said the businessmen told Geelani that they would appreciate his stand before the 5-member team led by veteran BJP leader Yashwant Sinha who is about to visit Kashmir for another round of "track-II talks", if he meets their demands. Sources said after a telephonic meeting with his colleagues, Geelani decided that it was better to support the Gulmarg festival. "Invitation to tourists is nothing but support for Gulmarg festival that a lobby of businessmen in Kashmir wants to grab. Otherwise what was the fun of inviting Amarnath Yatris during winters when this Yatra is actually held in summers?" the sources in Hurriyat said. The Tourism Department is planning to spend over Rs 50 lakhs on the festival scheduled to be held in the ski resort of Gulmarg later this month. |
