Anantnag, Dec 7: Forces Wednesday cordoned off Arwani village in South Kashmir's Kulgam district after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area. Police sources said heavy contingents of army, police and CRPF cordoned off the village which is just 5 km from Bijbehara town. Forces launched house-to-house search operation and pressed drone cameras into service to locate the hiding militants, the sources added. Sources said at least two militants could be hiding in the village. "We fired a few rounds and teargas shells towards a particular house in the village where we suspect militants are hiding, but there was no retaliation," sources said. While forces were laying the cordon, they were stoned by locals to distract them and help militants to escape unhurt. The jawans, while exercising maximum restrain, used tear smoke shells to disperse the mob. The operation was suspended at 7 pm till Thursday morning due to darkness and cold. Senior Army and police officers, including the GOC of Victor Force, also arrived on the spot. Earlier, the forces cordoned off Azullah in Anantnag district. After two hours, the cordon and search operation was called off. |
