'Cleft Week' camp inaugurated in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 7: On 'mission smile' the Smile Train, an international NGO, in partnership with Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar today organized a cleft lip surgery camp in winter capital at Amandeep Multi-specialty OPD Clinic, Jammu. Pertinently joint venture of Smile Train, an international NGO and Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar has provided over 5800 free cleft lip and palate surgeries to the underprivileged children born with this birth defect. And to create more awareness about cleft lip and palate, a Cleft Week is being organized between December 5-11 across Jammu & Punjab and the camp was organized at Amandeep Multi-specialty OPD Clinic, Jammu During this special event, Kavinder Gupta, Hon'ble Speaker, J&K Assembly was Chief Guest while Deepak Gupta, Prominent Industrialist, Ankush Gupta, President, BJP Gandhi Nagar Mandal, Kulbir Charak, Gen Secy. BJP, Jammu, Bharat Sharma, Narinder Singh, Retd Director, Information Deptt. J&K also attended the function.
During the occasion the identified patients were mobilized towards Amandeep Multi-Specialty OPD Clinic Jammu for free consultation and corrective surgery as well as the medical treatment of anemic children to facilitate surgery on time. A total 57 such patients were checked during this special camp. In his inaugural address the chief guest Speaker J&K Assembly Kavinder Gupta appreciated the initiative of Amandeep Hospital and Smile Train. He emphasized on the need of such more initiatives by private hospitals for upliftment of the downtrodden & destitute.
Meantime Dr Ravi Mahajan, Director, Smile Train & Chief Plastic Surgeon, Amandeep Hospital said that by treating such patients, Team Amandeep is feeling privileged. Speaking about the partnership with Smile Train, Dr Majahan said, "Smile Train has empowered us to apply our skills to help children and give back to the society. Without Smile Train's support we couldn't have helped 5800 children get a second chance at life.
Apart from the above guests, NGOs namely Baptist Fellowship The Ministry of God, Aid IT Action, Catholic Social Service Society, Sewa Sangh, Sainik Association, M.R. Association, All India Association of Chemist & Druggist also participated.
