Mendhar town reels under water shortage for last 3 months

Poonch, Dec 7: The performance of the Public Health Department can be gauged by the fact that people of Mendhar town are facing drinking water shortage for the last 3 months but the department is unmoved the locals alleged here today. Locals of several areas viz-a-viz Dhargloon, Basooni, Dharati, forward areas of Balakirev besides other hemlets alleged that most of water supply schemes were defunct in the Mendhar tehsil while as the main supply pipes were broken at various places but the lackadiasical aproach of the PHE Deptt left the people in lurch. There is no body to listen our plea as we have to cross a long distance to fetch water for drinking purposes for our homes they added. Fumed over the pathatic approach of the PHE department many people gathered at Dhargaloon and blocked road to stage protest against Chief Engineer PHE, XEn Poonch and AEE PHE Sub Division Mendhar for their total failure to restore the water supply to the Mendhar areas as for the last 3 months as people were facing the water crisis. The protest was led by chairman youth club Balakote, Er Majid Khatana The prostestors blocked Mendhar-Jammu highway for two hours at Dhar Galoon and raised slogan against the PHE Department and concerned staff. On receiving the information about dharna on highway a policy party lead by SDPO Shahid Naeem reached the spot and pacified the protestors. SDPO assured the agitating protestors that their demand will be put before the relevant from for a quick redressal. On the assurance of SDPO people lifted the dharna and allowed the movement of traffic sources said.
