CEA accords appraisal to Kwar Hydroelectric Project

Kishtwar, Dec 19: Chenab Valley Power Projects [P] Limited (CVPP Ltd.) has achieved another milestone after the accord of appraisal to Kwar Hydroelectric Project by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA). The decision was taken by the appraisal committee of CEA in its 337th meeting held on 15.11.2016.
The Kwar HE Project, on river Chenab in Kishtwar (J&K), is being implemented by CVPP Ltd, a joint venture company of NHPC Ltd, JKSPDC and PTC (I) Ltd and is the third project of CVPP after Pakal Dul HEP (1000 MW) and Kiru HEP (624 MW) getting the appraisal of CEA. All the statutory clearances viz accord of Appraisal by CEA, Environment Clearance by MOEF&CC, Forest Clearance by Govt. of J&K of Pakal Dul & Kiru projects have been obtained and the tendering is under process. It is envisaged that construction work of both the projects shall start next year.
The Kwar HE Project will be executed by constructing a 109m high concrete gravity dam and an underground power house of 540 MW. The project will generate about 1975 MU of energy annually. The project has already obtained the forest clearance from the Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir. The updated Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environment Management Plan (EMP) reports of the project have been submitted to MOEF&CC on 08.12.2016 and Environment Clearance to the project is also expected shortly.
The estimated cost of this project shall be Rs 4949 Crores which shall be met by way of debt-equity norms in accordance with regulatory guidelines. The project is scheduled to be completed in 54 months from the date of start of work.
With the appraisal of Kwar HE Project, decks are now cleared for inviting tenders for construction of the project and with Pakal Dul and Kiru HE Projects already in the pipeline for construction, these projects with aggregate installed capacity of 2164 MW will enhance the power scenario of the state to a great extent thus providing relief for the power deficient state and shall also contribute in overall socio economic development of the area.
