Race to fill up BJP Youth Prez's post in Kishtwar hots up | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Dec 19: The BJP in Kishtwar faces tough time to choose party's next Youth President for the district after the post fell vacant due to inclusion of Ashish Sharma into State Youth body as Vice President. Sources informed the Early Times that BJP MLA from Kishtwar Sunil Sharma who is also a minister in PDP-BJP government is moving cautiously into the matter amid fear of open rebellion from the youth leaders who had already started raising voices against the MLA Kishtwar over prevailing favoritism culture towards the upper caste society, beside non delivery on developmental front. The BJP insiders told the Early Times that Rocky Goswami, Anjju Sen, Ranjeet Shan, Ranjeet Wazir, Lalit Sharma, Arvind Baghat are the front runners for the post of BJP district Youth President Kishtwar which is lying vacant since almost one year. The sources said that Anjju Sen and Rocky Goswami were once considered very close to MLA Kishtwar Sunil Sharma. Sen received bullet injuries in his chest during 2013 Kishtwar communal riots and was shifted to Udhampur Hospital in critical condition. The communal riots are considered as the game changer in Kishtwar's political history that swung the pendulum in favour of the BJP. After winning the election from Kishtwar, Sunil Sharma inducted into the counsel of minister in both the governments previously headed by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and now by Mehbooba Mufti, these close aides and trusted youth leaders started setting apart from the minister after he allowed the non party workers considered close of NC/Congress lobby to get close to him. Sources said the arrest of Anjju Sen by Kishtwar police at the time when Sunil Sharma was a minster also annoyed the close aides of Sharma. It was seen as an attempt to suppress the Rajput community. Another candidate Rocky Goswami has also take on the party minister for posting tainted and non performing officers as head of the departments and had also threatened to hold a protest outside the residence of Sharma. Sources said that even though 35 year old Lalit Sharma holds key party post in parent body, he too is the contender for the party's prestigious post. There are also many other contenders from Muslim community as well. "Muslim had voted in large number for party both in Kishtwar and Inderwal constituency. Why a Muslim can't be nominated for the Youth President's post," said a party leader from Inderwal. "Kishtwar is not only Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas, areas of Inderwal, Dachhan, Padder, Bhunjwah, Sarthal, Saroor and other areas are also part of the district and party had so many youth faces from these areas who could become the Youth President." Sources said that Ranjeet Shan had the full blessings of MLA Kishtwar and his name was cleared by the party for the Youth President post. But it was stopped at last movement after an open threat from some active youth leaders who support seniority and performance as the criteria for the Youth President post. Sources said that former Youth President Shashi Badyal is also in the race for the post and is watching the number game and support from the top party leadership. Badyal along with Rocky Goswami played an important role in garnering support for the party in Padder area during 2014 election and it was only due to massive vote gain in Padder that Sunil Sharma managed to get victory in the election and later become the minister. |
