ET report awakens district admin to renovate War Martyrs' memorial 12/19/2016 10:18:02 PM MS Nazki Early Times Report Mendhar, Dec 19: Exposing indifferent approach of district administration of Poonch in its December 12, 2016 issue for not maintaining the war martyrs memorial, the general public of Mendhar has hailed the ET Report of which the administration took cognizance and started renovation of the memorial which otherwise had been neglected sources said here today. Sources said Shaheedi Yaadgar in Mendhar was neglected and no care was being taken by the district administration to up keep its maintenance. It was only once in a year when army organized wreath laying ceremony on the martyrs. It is pertinent to mention here that during 1965 war six civilians attained martyrdom while fighting enemies with shoulder to shoulder Indian Army. In the memory of those martyrs a war memorial known as Shaheedi Yaadgar stands in heart of Mendhar town. While hailing the story in newspaper the relatives of martyrs expressed their gratitude for highlighting the their plights which led to its immediate renovation and upkeep, they added. While taking cognizance of the matter Sub Divisional Magistrate Thakur Sher Singh engaged BDO officials to take stock of the renovation work and maintenance of the memorial there of. He said it will be a good tribute to brave hearts who gave their precious lives for the sake of motherland. Meanwhile Youth Club Mendhar Chairman, Advocate Nadeem Rafiq Hussain Khan also hailed the decision of district administration to renovate the martyrs War Memorial in which 97 Regiment of Army is also joining the administration.
