Shiv Dev Thakur Early Times Report jammu, Dec 19: To promote sports in J&K, the government of India has taken many initiatives, but the promised promotion has failed due to weariness of J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC). The JKSSC has even failed to identify land needed for construction of sports infrastructure at every nook and corner of the state under special package by PM Modi. Even after having received grant of Rs 200 crore from the Centre, the JKSSC has failed to identify lands for construction of stadia at district level. Instead of utilising the money to help budding sportspersons get quality infrastructure, the JKSSC is working at a snail's pace. The money sanctioned was to be used for construction of 12 indoor stadiums at different locations across the state including at Ladakh, Kargil, Samba, Billawar, Tral Pulwama, Koimoh, Pattan and Handwara. Besides, the money was to be meant for buying sports equipment, but nothing in the regard was done, added the sources. When contacted Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary JKSSC, said the "process of identification of lands is in progress and the Sports Council administration has also framed a committee." Manjeet Singh, Executive Engineer JKSSC, said the e-tendering process has been already done for Jammu and Samba followed by the final allotment of the tenders. He said the tendering process for Billawar is almost done and it is expected that the construction work will get started within days. "In some other districts, the land identification is under process and will be finalised soon," he added. |
