Avinash Azad Early Times Report jammu, Dec 19: Trainees of Police Training Center (PTC) Manigam who were injured during Kashmir unrest are feeling cheated, after government announced compensation for the family of Burhan Wani, a militant commander of the Kashmir-based Hizbul Mujahideen. According to sources, score of police trainees from Subsidiary Training Center Manigam, who received major/minor injuries while rendering their services during recent turmoil in valley, after killing Burhan Wani, had to spend from their pocket for treatment. It is pertinent to mention here that the state government on December 14 announced compensation for slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani's older brother, who was killed by the security forces in 2013. The Wani family will get Rs 4 lakh and a government job. In all, the state announced compensation for the families of 106 people who were either killed by security forces accidentally or by militants. Though, government had announced compensation for these trainees but, the announcement could not transform into reality. "Government had announced Rs 5000 for those who received minor injuries, while Rs 30,000 for those who received major injuries during scuffle with mob in Kashmir valley", sources said and added that the announcement could not transform into reality. "To transfer compensation, bank account numbers of injured police men (trainees) were registered by the authorities of STC Manigam, but there has been no progress thereafter", said a trainee, whishing not be named. He further said that it was disgusting on the part of administration, that after lapse of months, a meager, compensation announced by the government is not being provided to us. "Over one hundred civilian were killed and thousands were badly injured, at same time several security personnel died, while over 4,000 personnel were injured while maintaining law and order during the recent unrest", he said and added it was great disrespect for police personnel. Another trainee from STC Manigam said that the trainees from other police academies and training centres who were also called in for their services in valley, were also waiting for announced compensation. However, the sources in Police Head quarter admitted that announced compensation has not been disbursed yet. "A part of the compensation announced by government, for injured trainee cops, has been spent on their treatment, certainly it will discourage the cops", said an officer pleading anonymity. |
