10 lakh Aadhar applications pending in JK, courtesy babus | Students, pensioners left to suffer | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 19: The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir are making the Aadhar enrolment system a flop show, with no less than 10 lakh enrolment forms piling up and gathering dust at the offices concerned. Highly placed sources said there are 10 lakh people who have not received the Aadhar cards till date despite completion of all formalities. It was divulged further that those who are being made to move from pillar to post for Aadhar cards include students, job aspirants, daily wagers, government and private sector employees, and widows and pensioners. Sources said many months have passed since the people had applied for Aadhar cards but the dilatory approach and non-seriousness of the people at the helm has marred the entire process, with applicants becoming the victims of this apathy. As the babus in the state are passing the buck to the Centre for the delay, facts puncture their claims. It was only last month that process of Aadhar enrolment was stalled by the Registrar General of India (RGI) and subsequently handed over to Unique Identification Authority of India (UIA). The delay caused by the authorities in J&K is much older than that. "10 months have passed since I applied for my Adhaar. I am a pensioner and my pension would be withheld if I fail to submit my Aadhar details to the bank. I am yet to receive my Aadhar card," says a Srinagar local. Interestingly, the Governor, N N Vohra, had in February this year directed the Information Department to complete the enrolment under the National Population Register (NPR) and issuance of Aadhar cards by March 31,2016. The directions of the Governor fell on deaf ears, with state still reeling in crises over the want of Aadhar cards. "How could such a pathetic display of work be there? It is the matter of a serious concern that there are 10 lakh Aadhar applicants waiting for their cards and all are in desperate need of the same," says an official privy to the development. Meanwhile, it was informed that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has taken serious note of the delays done in Aadhar enrolment in the state, directing the concerned to streamline the system so that applicants aren't taken for a ride. Currently, there are hundreds of women whose monthly widow and old age pension has been withheld for want of Aadhar cards. |
