Early TImes Report Srinagar, Dec 19: The state high court has sought a status report from the concerned authorities in connection with the killing of a former Congress sarpanch at Dooru in South Kashmir last month. Hearing a petition by the sarpnach's family, the high court issued notice to the government through its home secretary, DGP, IGP, Kashmir, and SSP, Anantnag. The family has submitted that a "false and frivolous" case has been registered by the concerned police officer, Dooru. The family alleged that the sarpanch was taken into custody by police and despite grant of bail to him, he was not released and kept in continuous detention. It was alleged that the sarpanch was 'killed' on November 30, 2016 in fake encounter near Agnoo Zamaigam, Doru, Anantnag. He was having no link with militants nor was previously involved in any FIR. The state police authorities, the family alleged, had till date not fulfilled their commitment of a fair probe into the incident even as the petitioner had approached police for lodging of an FIR against the 'guilty'. The petitioner has also moved the court of judicial magistrate, Dooru, in terms of section 156 of CrPC for directing the respondents to register a criminal case against the 'guilty'. The family has sought registeration of a murder case into the incident and investigation of the matter by any agency other than police. |
