Team Jammu calls on Cong, NC, asks to debate Drug abuse issue in House | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 19: In a bid to hone up its ongoing campaign against drug abuse, a delegation of Team Jammu led by its chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal today met opposition National Conference and Congress parties to mobilize support of Legislators to deal with the menace of drug addiction and sought support to bring a unanimous resolution in coming Legislative Assembly session to make existing laws more stringent to curb menace of drug addiction among youth. During the meeting of the delegation with Provincial President of National Conference, and MLA, Nagrota, Devender Singh Rana, Chairman Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal sought support of Devender Singh Rana and also urged to initiate a healthy debate while rising above the party lines so that a resolution in the Assembly is passed in one voice with the support of both opposition and treasury benches. Team Jammu delegation also submitted a memorandum to Devender Singh Rana in this regard. The delegation said there is need that special discussion should be held on drugs in the forthcoming budget session of the Assembly to plug loopholes to make existing laws more stringent and effective. Devender Singh Rana, assured full support from National Conference to deal with this menace. Earlier deputation of Team Jammu also called on Sham Lal Sharma, former Minister for Health, Floriculture and Horticulture and senior vice president of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and sought his support to convince Congress party to bring a resolution in the upcoming Assembly session to book drug mafia with sedition charges. Chairman Team Jammu Mr Jamwal urged senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma to take the lead in fighting drug mafia in J&K. Sham Lal Sharma also assured Team Jammu that Congress will fight in and outside the assembly against Drug Menace, stated that this is a burning issue in the society and everyone must contribute in this movement against drug menace to save the younger generation. "Congress will support even the treasury benches as it is not vote bank politics but a sensitive issue of the future generations, former minister added. |
