JAMMU, Dec 19: Hosts Jammu district completely dominated the courts winning both boys and girls title trophies in the 28th J&K State Volleyball Championship held under the banner of Volleyball Association of J&K at Volleyball Courts, MA Stadium, here today. While Jammu boys defeated Kathua 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-17), the girls team outplayed district Samba 3-2 (22-25, 16-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-03) in a close contest that lasted for complete five sets. Earlier, 16 teams, representing Poonch, Rajouri, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Jammu, Ramban, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, Baramulla, Shopian and Bandipora took part in this competition on league-cum-knockout basis. Minister for Health, Bali Bhagat was chief guest in the closing function, who underlined the importance of games in general and volleyball in particular for overall development of a child while giving away the title trophies and other individual prizes and medals. Registrar, University of Jammu, Prof Kashev Sharma was the guest of honour, who appreciated the efforts of the Association, especially patron-in-chief, Raj Daluja, president, Sidharth Daluja, and CEO, Kuldip Magotra, for their untiring efforts in making the championship a grand success and promoting volleyball game throughout the State. Amongst other present were Joint Secretary State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Station House Officer (SHO) City Shakti Sharma, Dr Ashutosh Sharma, Prof DS Bhau, HS Gill, Raj Guru, Madan Lal Toofan, Abdul Ahmad Shah, VK Magotra, RC Sharma and Mohd Tariq Khan. In the meantime, president of the Association, Sidharth Daluja gave away cash prizes of Rs 5,000 each to winner teams and Rs 2,500 each to runners up teams. President, Jammu District Volleyball Association, Manmeet Singh Amn also announced cash prize of Rs 5,000 each to winner teams of both sections. The matches were officiated by the technical penal comprising Amarjeet Singh, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Neeraj Sharma, Wasim Raja, Amit Sharma, Ilyas khan, Shafqat, Azhar Aziz, Naresh Sharma, Imtiaz, Sher Singh, Rajinder Pal Singh and Akbar Ali. |
