IT Deptt urged to scrutinize assets of MLAs’

Jammu, DEC 19: Balwinder Singh Convener Sangarsh RTI Movement, who is also the State Coordinator of Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) along with Deepak Sharma of Sangarsh RTI Movement in which they appreciated the central government for cracking down heavily on the black money hoarders in the country and further urged upon the government to make the politicians also accountable by honestly scrutinizing their assets which has been increased many folds, by applying the same yardstick as has been applied to a common man.
Sharing the analysis done by Association of Democratic Reform (ADR) regarding assets comparison of re-contesting MLAs' in the State Assemble Election held in 2014, the activists said that ADR has analyzed the data of 45 re-contesting MLA's on the basis of the assets detail given by them in their Sworn-in affidavits, submitted to the Election Commission at the time of filling the nomination forms during 2008 and 2014 Assembly Election, which are also available of ECI website www.eci.nic.in. As per the data analysed, the average assets of 45 re-contesting MLAs' in 2008 Assemble Election was Rs. 1.49 crore whereas in 2014 it rose to 3.10 crores , thereby making an average asset growth of Rs. 1.60 crore. Shockingly in one case the asset of a politician has been increased even more than 20,000% within a short period of his 6 year tenure as MLA. Sharing the asset details of top 10 re-contesting MLA's who recorded the highest growth in their assets during their six years term as MLA from 2008 to 2014, the name of Taj Mohi-Ud-Din of Congress figured at top with an increase of Rs. 18. 31 crore (1637% increase) , followed by Dr. Bashir Ahmed Shah of PDP with an increase of Rs. 8.82 crore (834% increase), Abdul Gaffar Sofi of PDP of Rs. 4.17 crore (49% Increase), Mohd. Akbar Lone of National Conference Rs. 4.11 Crore (117% increase), Mubarak Ahmed Gul of National Conference with Rs. 3.59 Crore (640% increase), Raman Bhalla of Congress Rs. 3.23 Crore (635% increase), Shamim Firdous of National Conference Rs. 3.20 crore (546% increase), Mohd. Irfan Shah of National Conference Rs. 2.82 crores (170% increase), Nasir Aslam Wani of National Conference Rs. 2.57 crore (77% increase) and Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari of PDP Rs. 2.48 Crores (764%). Whereas there is a whooping increase of more than 20,000 % in the assets of Haji Mohd Ashraf Ganie of National Conference who has shown his assets in 2014 as 1.80 Crore whereas his assets in 2008 was only Rs.90,000. In the analysis of party wise average asset increase for re-contesting 45 MLA's in 2014 Assembly election, Congress with 11 re-contesting MLA's recorded the highest asset increase of Rs. 2.96 Crores (414% Increase), followed by PDP with 7 re-contesting MLA's of Rs. 1.86 crore (104% increase) and National Conference with 18 re-contesting MLA's of Rs. 1.21 Crore (50% increase).
