Modi's dig at Rahul borders on sarcasm | | | The war of words between Prime Min- ister, Narendra Modi, and Congress Vicepresident, Rahul Gandhi over demonetization has entered yet another phase and Moldi does not leave any chance to have a dig at Rahul Gandhi. During the last about a fortnight Gandhi has been saying that there could be an earthquake when he spoke on demonetisation in the parliament that too in the presence of Modi. Modi failed to be present in the parliament for a few days and Rahul failed to cause an earthquake in the parliament. He then took to public meetings where he chastised Modi for being a corrupt man. He alleged that Sahara group had paid a heavy sum of money to Modi when he was chief Minister of Gujarat. Though this charge or allegation was denied vehemently by some ministers in the cabinet headed by Modi, later it was left to Modi himself to mock Rahul Gandhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mocked his political rival and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi during his address at the Banaras Hindu University in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. What Modi said borders on sarcasm .In fact Rahul Gandhi has been ridiculed by Modi in his address He has stated that the Congress has a young leader. He is learning to speak. From the time he has learnt to speak, there is no end to" my joy," said PM Modi in a reference to Gandhi."If he had not spoken, this country would have had to bear a huge earthquake, but it is good he has started to speak because now we know there is no chance of an earthquake," the prime minister said in a sort of response to Gandhi's "earthquake" warning if he spoke on demonetisation. This mockery of Gandhi indicates Modi's pain because Rahul has been, while berating demonetization, telling the nation that demonetization has affected farmers and small traders.Yes, Modi has announced on day one demonetization that it may take banks 50 days to conduct normal business .He had anticipated long lines of people in front of banks to get the old currency notes changed and outside ATMs for getting cash. People keep on suffering pangs of pain because of demonetization as several banks and ATMs have remained cashless during intervals despite the fact that 50 days have elapsed. In fact since November 8 there has been wordy duel between the opposition and the BJP and its allies. It is only in two states where the Chief Ministers have supported demonetization. It is Nitish Kumar in Bihar and Mehbooba Mufti in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba supported the move because people in Jammu and Kashmir did not suffer the pains of demonetisation as banks and ATMs were not cashless. Nitish Kumar believed that this was the way to end corruption and black money. There could have been no pain of cashless banks and ATMs The Government and other agencies have recovered so far several hundred crores of black money and part of the money was found in new currency notes. Had there been no nexus between senior bank employees and big businessmen and bureaucrats in the several hundred crores of currency notes declared as black money part of that would have not been in new currency notes. This was the reason for banks ATMs to remain cashless. Indications are that certain agencies and the opposition tried hard to make demonetization a failure but Modi as a strong man showed patience. |
