Jammu, Dec 23: Funds released, during the tenure of two chief engineers to the public health and engineering (PHE) department for a division of Jammu province, have remained unaccounted for, but the authorities concerned have failed to take any action against the 'guilty' officers. According to sources, the CEs had released funds for at least five years without following any codal formalities due to which the government suffered losses worth crores. "There is no accountability of funds released during the tenure of two CEs in the PHE department," said sources, adding that though the release of funds remained under the scanner of anti-graft agencies, the concerned authorities failed to take any action in this regard. If sources are to be believed, complaints were registered against both the officers, but action was never taken, owing to political clout of the officers. "Both the officers were under scanner for the release of funds, but authorities and investigative agencies succumbed to the pressure of these officers," maintained sources, adding that the funds released by the two CEs during their tenures were in crores. |
