Hangul found dead in Dachigam under mysterious circumstances | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 22: A royal stag or Hangul has died allegedly under mysteriously circumstances at the Dachigam National Park on the Srinagar outskirts here. Official sources in the Civil Secretariat in Jammu said that the Hangul died early this week as it looks that it was allegedly killed by some hunters who had sneaked into to the national park. The sources said though the matter was brought into the notice of a minister, he asked the officials to keep the death of the endangered animal "a secret lest media creates a hue a cry over the issue." Sources said the male Hangul around 10 years old was found dead in the forest area and bore some injuries. Sources said the postmortem of the animal was done before its burial. It is for the first time in the last around two years that Hangul has died in the Dachigam National Park. The population of the Hanguls has already been on decline while as mere 150 odd of them are believed to be left in the Dachigam National Park. But a senior official in the Forest Department who looks after the Wildlife department said that there was nothing mysterious in Hangul's death. The animal was presumably killed by some wild beast. "There are no hunters nor any hunters dare to venture into the restricted territory," the official said. The Hangul has died at a time when the national park is in news over delay in shifting of sheep breeding farm there to elsewhere. Last month the officials of the Sheep Husbandry Department and the Wildlife Department clashed each other over the shifting of the farm. Meanwhile a police official said they have no reports of the killing of Hangul in the national park. "We have not received any such information from the concerned," he said. |
