Rly Tunnel Workers demanding better facilities, suspend work on 5th day | | | Early Times Report Banihal, Dec 23: Construction work of under construction Railway Tunnels in Khari of district Ramban continued suspended on fifth consecutive day today as workers continued their protest in support of their demand of better facilities and security. The work on construction site was closed after the workers engaged with the construction company AFCON go on indefinite strike on their different long pending demands. Agitating workers engaged with AFCONS assembled outside the portal of the under construction Railway Tunnel number 49B and staged protest demonstration. Protestors under the Banner of Gareeb Behbood Mazdoor Union (GBMU) raising slogans highlighting their demands alleged that the construction company is paying them less wages as per norms. They also alleged that the allowances as per the labour law are not given to them and even the safety norms too are not adhered during working in and outside of the under construction tunnel. They demanded to company that first accept their union and then full fill their demands. Union leaders said that more than 300 workers working in this project are on indefinite strike till the company fulfill their genuine demands. They said that the work on two tunnels has been suspended for the last four days and the work on third one is also to be suspended soon. Speakers also said that locals have given their agricultural/non agricultural lands for the construction of this project but company is taking them on ride. |
