After exchanging fire with forces, militants escape in Kulgam | CASO launched in Sopore, search on | | Early Times Report
KULGAM, May 14: Militants after exchanging fire with the security forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district have reportedly managed to escape from the encounter spot. As per the report, during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, security forces received inputs about the presence of militants in Yamrach village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. An official said that 34 Rashtriya Rifles and 188 Battalion CRPF cordoned off the village and started a search operation. “The militants fired indiscriminately on combined forces after contact wad established. There was an exchange of fire between militants and security forces for some time, after which militants took advantage of darkness and escaped from the village,” a police official said adding that search is still in progress in adjacent villages of Yamrach. Meanwhile, amid rain security forces launched cordon and search operation (CASO) in Sopore Village. As per the reports security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Thakgund village of Sopore North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. According to reports a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, SOG Sopore and 179 CRPF and 92 BN conducted door-to-door searches in the Thakkgund village of Sopore. Sources said that operation was launched while following credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area. So far there was no report of any contact between the militants and the forces. The cordon and search operation was going on in the area when this report was filed. |
