VC SMVDU inaugurates Translators' Orientation Programme for KTT in Dogri

Katra, June 2: Translators' Orientation Programme for Knowledge Text Translation (KTT) in Dogri was inaugurated by Prof. Sudhir K Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in the Sanskriti Kaksha of University campus.
According to press release, organized by School of Languages and Literature in collaboration with National Translation Mission, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, the programme is a part of Government of India scheme to establish translation as an industry in general and, to facilitate higher education by making knowledge texts accessible to students and academics in Indian languages in particular. The objective of the programme is to create a knowledge society by transcending language barriers and to disseminate knowledge in all Indian languages listed in the VIII schedule of the Constitution through translation.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Prof. Jain appreciated the mission of NTM and efforts of School of Languages and Literature to organize an event on Transltion which is of immense national importance in the present times. The Guest of honor, Sh. Shailender Singh in his address highlighted the importance of Dogri as a language which can be uplifted only if every Dogri speaking individual feels pride in his/her language and contributes in real sense for making the Dogri language vibrant.
On the occasion, Prof. Lalit Magotra, Convener, Sahitya Akademi and former President Dogri Sanstha delivered the key note address and Sh. Shailender Singh, SSP and Sahitya Akademi awardee Dogri writer was the Guest of Honor. He gave an in-depth presentation on the evolution of language and how translation has contributed in knowledge production and can further contribute in enriching societies. Prof.V. K. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences delivered the formal welcome address and spoke on interdisciplinary nature of the programme. Isha Malhotra, Asst. Prof, SOLL delivered the formal vote of thanks and research scholars of the SOLL, Quleen, Simranpreet, Kamaldeep, Subah Gandhi, Priyanka and Komal Rakwal conducted the proceedings.
