Terrorists Strategize to intimidate annual pilgrimage | Hitting mobile towers; targeting Amarnath Yatra | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 2: The recent strategy of the militants to target mobile towers is being seen as an attempt to disrupt coming Amarnath yatra . According to the intelligence agencies, it is an attempt to intimidate the pilgrimage. The Union Home Ministry taking a serious note of this development has directed the state government to thwart any attempt to disturb the yatra. "The terrorists in a well thought out plan have devised this strategy of disrupting the mobile services just ahead of the Amarnath yatra. They are trying to send the message that these attacks can become more lethal and have achieved some degree of success in their plan," said a senior official, wishing not to be named. The intelligence sources said that plan was chalked out after their earlier attempts to destabilise the yatra by terrorist attacks or even street protests didn't yield much of the results. "The earlier strategy only backfired on them as pilgrims were not deterred by it but started coming back in huge numbers," said the official. It is after this that they (terrorists) devised this strategy. The intelligence sources said that now a days, no one wants to stay ouit of communication especially while trekking a hilly path in terrorism prone Kashmir division. "Any pilgrim will think twice on coming for the yatra if the mobile network is not working. The people are not coming to a peaceful but a terrorism infested areas, from where most of the time only negative reports come out. The family members of the pilgrim will try to dissuade them after hearing the news of attack on the mobile towers," said the official. The sources said that the plan was devised with top separatists who have got the scores of the under-ground-worker and some disillusioned youth, who are on the pay roll of the handlers of the separatist and terrorists across the border. "The separatists are more frustrated with the coming in of the BJP government in the State. This is their frustrated attempt to prove the point that yatra can be disrupted even during the BJP government and ruling Kashmir valley is still a distant dream for the party in real terms," said the official. |
