Jammu, June 2: Transfers of police officers from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to Inspector level are in the pipelines so cops these days are busy in reviving their socio-political links to get important postings.
Interestingly unlike previous Congress-National Conference government when cops used to approach their political masters to get postings, police officers, in Jammu province, now a days, seen bee-lining straightway to the residence of a prominent businessman of Jammu city. Instead of approach politicians of ruling party or ministers in the government, majority of the police officers are preferring the businessman, in the question, due to his close proximity with Deputy Chief Minister. Due to his proximity with Deputy Chief Minister and financial position, this businessman has created a big clout in the administration so officers prefer his sycophancy rather than approaching ministers.
Credible sources in the police department said that the business has successfully got some of the officers of his choice appointed on important position in civil departments and his this action has strengthen the perception among cops, from top to the bottom, that the said businessman is more powerful than any other minister or leader of the BJP.
Credible sources said that the businessman has already started preparing lists of police officers to be appointed as SHOs in different police stations. Some police officers have already given assurances by the said businessman that they would be given "Thana" of their own choice. At a time when BJP cabinet ministers in the coalition government finding it very hard to appoint SHOs in police stations of their constituencies, the businessman is distributing "Thanas" to Inspectors.
Credible sources further said that some Inspectors, who had already "approached" the businessman, have publically announced that they would be appointed as SHOs in particular police stations at the time of transfers. It was all due to interference of the said businessman that a "controversial and tainted" police officer was posted on very very sensitive place despite the fact that record of the same police officer was not good.
Over active role of the businessman has not surprised higher-ups in the police department but discussion of his role has become a routine affairs in the BJP also. Majority of the party workers feel that the businessman has grown bigger than organisation because all important assignments of the party are being given to him to maintain secrecy. |
