Security agencies fail to act against 'militants' carrying out attacks on cell companies | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 2: Failure of the Jammu & Kashmir Police and other security agencies to nab the suspected militants who carried out attacks on showrooms and towers of the various mobile companies has given a feeling that the cellular services may come to an abrupt halt in the Kashmir valley. More than a week has passed ever since the suspected militants killed the employee of a mobile showroom at Sopore in North Kashmir, but as on date no substantive action has been taken against the 'rogue' elements. Whosoever has carried out the attack needs to be accounted for and in this regard the role of police and other security agencies is pivotal. "Common masses have apprehensions that the mobile services would be suspended and they would be pushed to the stone-age. It was the responsibility of the government in place to ensure that there is no chaos and confusion with respect to the operation of the mobile services in the Kashmir valley," said Shameem Ahmad, a resident of Hyderpora. Barring arrest of few people pasting threatening posters in Khrew area of Pulwama district the police and security agencies have failed to come up to the expectations of people in neutralizing the elements hell bent on stopping cellular services in the valley. "Putting the blame on the militants alone would not inculcate confidence among the people and they want some results at the end of the day. Let the police arrest some of the militants since they have the resources to do the job. Issuing statements against the militants would not lead to fruitful results and action is needed against the rogue elements," said Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Budgam. Silence from both the government and militants with respect to attacks on cellular showrooms and towers have led to disillusionment among the people. The people want the air to be cleared so that there is an end to the confusion prevailing with regard to the operation of cellular services in the Kashmir valley. "Different rumours are floating in the market with respect to the attacks carried out the mobile showrooms and towers. While some hold the militants responsible for the attacks there are others who believe that these are carried at the behest of the agencies. The picture would become clear only when somebody is arrested and the whole network is busted," said Mohammad Amin, a resident of Nowshera. People in general are apprehensive about the continuity of cellular services in the Kashmir valley. There are people who say that the mobile services would be shut on June 3 for 10 days. The subscribers of the different private cellular companies are more harried since their services have started to get affected in Kashmir. |
